An important part of our mission is giving shelter and rescue dogs a second chance. We believe many dogs simply need the right training, structure, and opportunity to show what they are capable of. By building strong foundations and, when appropriate, providing meaningful work, we help transform potential into purpose and prepare dogs for successful, lasting homes. 

  We are equally committed to supporting veterans and our local communities. Through training, mentorship, and partnerships, we create opportunities for veterans to build strong relationships with their dogs and become involved in meaningful K9 programs.Our goal is simple: strengthen lives, raise working-dog standards, and develop dogs and handlers prepared to perform when it matters most. 

Shawn Hite

Shawn Hite, founder and lead trainer of PUP Assist, LLC, is a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and Combat Veteran with over 20 years of service. After his military career, Shawn pursued his passion for canine training, earning his certification as a Master Dog Trainer. 

 

His expertise spans scent detection, obedience training, and specialized roles such as bed bug, narcotics, and explosives detection, as well as trailing for search and rescue (SAR).

Lori Hite

Lori Hite, Shawn’s partner in PUP Assist, LLC, brings a diverse background in healthcare, staff management, and operations to the business. 

 

Additionally, Lori has several years of experience fostering dogs, which has significantly advanced her knowledge in various areas of dog behavior and basic training. Her hands-on experience with fostering has deepened her understanding of canine needs, making her an integral part of the PUP Assist team.
